Sherwood Island, Westport CT
'Yellow and Green'
Original Oil on Canvas | 9 x 12 wide
Sometimes the simplest combination of colours can make the most interesting subject. Yellow and Green is an original plein air oil painting study created at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, Connecticut, exploring the relationship between color, light and the natural landscape.
Painting outdoors offers a rather different experience from working in the studio. The light is constantly changing, colors appear differently as the conditions shift, and there is a certain immediacy to responding directly to the landscape in front of you. This study takes its inspiration from the contrasting yellow and green tones found at the start of Fall in Sherwood Island, capturing an immediate impression of this part of the Connecticut coast.
This original Sherwood Island oil painting is an intimate study of the landscape, with the views towards Compo Beach and the Norwalk Islands in the distance.
